Generation · Transmission · Transition

Most advisors know the model.
Few have stood in the switchyard.

Simmons Energy Advisors sits at the interface of megawatts and capital — advising on M&A, development, and financing for the generation and transmission assets powering the energy transition.

Twenty-plus years reading the grid from both sides — the one-line diagram and the term sheet.

That dual fluency in electric power generation and transmission, paired with deal-making, is what lets clients move faster from concept to financed, operating asset — without translation loss between the engineering room and the boardroom.

Practice Areas

Where we work

01

Development

Standing up new generation and transmission projects — from siting and interconnection strategy through notice-to-proceed — so mega projects are built to succeed.

02

Capital Projects

Structuring and raising the capital stack behind large-scale energy infrastructure — equity, debt, and everything negotiated in between.

03

M&A & Investment Advisory

Evaluating and executing critical investment decisions — acquisitions, divestitures, and valuation — for owners and investors across the power value chain.

Our Approach

A single throughline, three stages of work

Every engagement moves along the same line the industry itself is moving along — from the assets already on the grid, to the wires that connect them, to the resources replacing them.

Stage 01

Generation

Deep operating grounding in how power plants are built, run, and valued.

Stage 02

Transmission

Fluency in the interconnection and delivery constraints that make or break a project's economics.

Stage 03

Transition

Applying both to the new resources, financing structures, and buyers reshaping the grid today.

Built on time inside the industry, not just around it

Jeff began his career as a transmission and project engineer at Commonwealth Edison before moving into origination and corporate development at TXU, Luminant, and Energy Future Holdings — and later ran nuclear business units outside of Japan for Toshiba, serving as CFO of a 2.9-gigawatt nuclear expansion and General Manager of a multi-technology energy portfolio. That arc, from the field to the boardroom, is the vantage point that now shapes how Simmons Energy Advisors approaches every engagement.

He holds an M.B.A. from SMU, a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Southern Illinois University, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas — a combination that lets him evaluate a project's technical merits and its capital structure in the same conversation. Today, alongside Simmons Energy Advisors, he serves as Principal at Novellum Partners advising a major utility on a nuclear development program, and as Senior Advisor to Filsinger Energy Partners.
